Kevin Rudd on Hard Count

Fox Sports Australia

HOST: We love to cover the Aussies in the League here on Hard Count and one Brisbanite made his way onto the NFL sidelines this week. It was just former Prime Minister, Mr Kevin Rudd, and he joins us on the phone now. Kev, we understand you saw your first NFL game in Philly, so tell us how was it? KEVIN RUDD: I’ve got to say it was a great atmosphere down there in Philadelphia at the ground (the Lincoln Field, I think they call it). Certainly the locals are passionate about getting behind their local team, the Eagles. HOST: Have you adopted the Eagles as your team or will another team win your heart? RUDD: I’ve been living in New York since the beginning of this year as President of the Asia Society Policy Institute. I’ve got to make up my mind either between the Giants or the Jets, or one of the surrounding teams such as the Eagles. I’ll consult widely with people like Henry Kissinger and see who they back. HOST: Now you’ve sampled the physicality of the sport up close and personal, had you had the chance as a youngster, would you have given the game a go? RUDD: I had two years of schoolboy rugby where I was in the second row, which is basically the place where you get your head punched in. I think I would like – everyone would enjoy the romance of quarterback. So that’s where I’d like to be. HOST: Thanks for joining us on Hard Count, Kevin. Hope you get the chance to catch a few more games while you’re over in the US.
