Asia Society President’s message to China’s Party Congress

China has achieved much for its own people and the world through reform and opening over a long period, including alleviating poverty. This has earned the admiration of countries across the world. As an old and always candid friend of the Chinese people going back almost forty years, I understand the deep significance of party congresses in setting the course for the future. I wish to extend our best hopes to our friends within the Chinese leadership for this congress as it deliberates on major policies that will shape the future of peace, prosperity and sustainability across the whole world.
